NATURE

Amidst the man-made world of concrete, brick and glass, nature reminds us of life’s cycle and beauty.

Smiles grow from a planter as the pansies, vivid purple, inlaid with daffodil yellow, reach for the sun, their roots searching for more room to spread their joy.

Pink dogwood trees, in full bloom, hope that we do not see past their beauty as they attempt to camouflage the structure of man.

A huge hardwood stands in the middle of nature’s carpet of green, its bark shedding like a snake in the summer, yearning for times gone by when leaves adorned its branches that spread out like an umbrella, protecting the grass from the summer sun’s heat.

A small pond, encased in stone by mans hand, awaits the cleansing rain of spring to wash away the stagnation and change the mucky green to a welcoming blue. The green swords that encircle each bloom, make a last-ditch effort to keep the daffodils alive. The yellow blossoms now bowed down, drying, and gradually turning brown, await their fate of hibernation until next spring.

We place nature in convenient places so that we can enjoy its beauty, its rebirth - possibly, in an attempt to encourage our own rebirth. Or maybe because we don’t want its serenity to get too far away for fear we may destroy it and never again have the privilege of its natural healing of our souls.
